PP-R Swap Brings Plant Room Savings

We saved the contractor an impressive 71% materials cost when he went for the PP-R swap we recommended for this plant room job.


PP-R Plant Room InstallationThe original specification was to use MDPE Pressure Pipe electrofusion, but we were able to advise on the suitability, and cost saving, of switching to PP-R.


The requirement was:

  • A header in 63mm dia. to connect water to each flat
  • 90mm dia. from the storage tank to the pump. Connections including isolation/strainer valves
  • 32mm dia. from the storage tank to the sprinkler system including isolation valves

In MDPE, as specified, materials would have cost £6,767.35.  In Wefatherm PP-R, the cost was just £1974.50 – a saving of 71%.


Plumbing subcontractor MDO Pipe Fitting Solutions came in and completed the job in just 2 days.


Our main involvement on this new build site of 9 apartments (11 bathrooms) in Deptford, London, was through merchant Professional Plumbing Supplies Limited who supplied all bathroom materials and the Wefatherm PP-R.


But, as always, we were delighted to add value with our knowledge and advice, resulting in a spectacular cost saving for the contractor.

The Only PPR System With WRAS Product Approval

You will have seen elsewhere on this site that we are proud of the fact that Wefatherm is the only PPR system with WRAS Product Approval.

 

WRAS Product ApprovalThe WRAS (Water Regulations Advisory Scheme) has a useful purpose “to contribute to the protection of public health by preventing contamination of public water supplies and encouraging the efficient use of water by promoting and facilitating compliance with the Water Supply (Water Fittings) Regulations and Scottish Water Byelaws”.

 

But the term ‘WRAS approved’ is bandied around too readily by manufacturers and their marketing team without much effort being spent explaining the crucial distinction between WRAS Material Approval and WRAS Product Approval.

 

Be under no illusion, you need to be sure the water supply pipes and fittings you are using have WRAS Product Approval.

August 2015 – Plastic Pipe Systems Limited is delighted to announce that the Wefatherm PP-R piping system has been granted full Product Approval by WRAS, the U.K.’s Water Regulations Advisory Scheme. Wefatherm is manufactured by the Aliaxis Group at its advanced Marley factory in Wunstorf, Germany.

 

Wefatherm PP-R Piping SystemWefatherm is the world’s first fusion welded PP-R pipe system to receive the accolade of full Product Approval after many exacting mechanical test procedures. WRAS specify ten rigorous test regimes including the pipes being thermally cycled 5,000 times at 10 bar between 20° C and 95° C, and the fittings tested at 64 bar at 20°C and 14 bar at 95° C.

 

WRAS Product ApprovalThe system already holds WRAS Material Approval, which ensures excellent hygiene for potable water with no taste or smell contamination. The new WRAS Product Approval goes further and confirms its mechanical performance. This means the Wefatherm PP-R system can be installed in every water provider’s area in England, Scotland, Wales & Northern Ireland being fully compliant with the United Kingdom’s Water Regulations.
